Gameplay
After joining the server you will begin as a first year student. Follow Hagrid's directions to Hogwarts, where you will be sorted into one of the following houses. Different houses have specific common areas and dormitories, where you will spawn into Hogwarts. You may select your house, but houses that are currently too full of players will be unavailable for sorting.
Some houses may not be available to join depending on the population of each house.
You will start off without any ability to perform spells, but may learn spells by attending classes, doing quests, and reading books. Advance in your Hogwarts education and graduate to successive years by attending examinations on Finals Month.
It is recommended, but not required, that you participate in extracurricular activities such as quidditch and dueling. Such activities can help you gain points for your house, and the house with the most points at the end of the year wins the House Cup.

House Points
Players can gain or lose house points from good or bad behavior. Prefects and professors may discipline and reward players.
Warning: EXP is also gained and lost.
The house with the most points at the end of the year will win the House Cup. Winning the House Cup is a great honor for your house and players that were active within the winning house during the year will receive a large sum of EXP.

Detention
Professors may assign detention as well as deduct house points for rule breaking. Detention usually involves helping the professor with a task in their office. Professors are allowed to take students on semi-dangerous detentions, voiding the ban on restricted areas and strict curfew for the duration of the detention. Detentions last for a maximum of 3 hours.
Quests
Quests can be received from NPCs at Hogwarts. Different quests provide different rewards, and may involve disobeying school rules. Some quests require that students be above a certain year, a certain status, or in a party with friends. There is a main quest line to follow along with many side plots involving friends and foes that you make during your stay at Hogwarts.
Dungeon areas are also available to be plundered by parties. Dungeons provide great rewards at a much higher difficulty.
Quidditch
Visit the Quidditch tab in-game to view team standings and upcoming game times. To join the house team, complete the quest to join (years 2+). Players can gain house points and EXP from playing in and winning matches. The Quidditch Cup is awarded to the team that receives the most total points in the school tournament, and all house members receive EXP for winning.
Inter-house quidditch matches occur on predetermined weekends. Each team must have at least 7 players ready to play in order to participate. If either team fails to have 7 players ready by 30 minutes after the match's designated time, that team automatically forfeits the match. If both teams cannot gather 7 players, the game is postponed to the next day. Once a team has 7 starter players ready, other interested players from the same house will be assigned to the bench. Players on the bench can join the game if a starter player is injured, afk, or disconnects. The Quidditch Captain can also swap benched players with starters before the match begins.
One student from each house can become the house's Quidditch Captain, determined by their performance in the previous year's matches. The Quidditch Captain has authority over all other house members in determining starters and positioning.
